What the sources establish

The developer FAQ places Escape from Playtime some time after the Hour of Joy. It does not, by that statement alone, establish every character's identity or a precise year.

Sourced details and our suggested next steps follow. Linked reports are observations, not verified fixes.

01 Start with the narrow confirmed statement

Use the FAQ's relative placement as the starting point. ‘After’ does not tell you how long after, and it does not establish that every trailer scene occurs at the same moment. If an exact year appears in a theory, look for the primary evidence that supports that number. Leave the field open when no explicit evidence is available.

02 Record what the footage actually shows

For a visual clue, save the video title, URL and timestamp, then describe only what is visible or audible. For example, a sign can establish that a name appears in the frame; identifying the unseen speaker requires additional evidence. Avoid turning an ambiguous shape or compressed thumbnail into a confirmed character reveal.

03 Give a theory a way to be wrong

Write the proposed explanation and one observation that would contradict it. Compare an alternative explanation for the same clue. This keeps a discussion useful even when people disagree. Repetition across social posts is not independent evidence if those posts all rely on the same trailer frame or uncredited claim.

04 Respect version and spoiler boundaries

Label whether a clue comes from a reveal trailer, a playtest or the release build. Edited promotional footage may omit context. When discussing a new discovery with others, put the source and spoiler scope before the interpretation. Our video library separates official promotional material from player recordings so you can choose how much to see.

Limits of this guide

This page is a source-reading method, not a complete story explanation. It does not authenticate fan theories or claim access to unreleased lore.
